A team consisting of JC1 students – Hoo Di Heng (2023), Deston Wong Zi Hao (2029) and Xin Wenkang (2030) - has just competed in the S.T. Yau High School Science Award finals, and has emerged top in their category and awarded the Gold Prize. The S.T. Yau High School Science Award competition is open to global high school students and requires participants to submit their research report and present an oral defence in the finals.
Congratulations to the team members!
Their research project, “Ti6Al4V Microstructure Image Segmentation with Computer Vision Analysis” started in May under the mentorship of Dr Nathaniel Ng (IHPC A*Star research institute) and our school teachers Mr Goh Kien Soon and Mrs Judy Tan as the Scientists-in-Schools collaboration.
The main motivation of their research is to improve on the current manual and automated methods of analysing microstructures of materials, and making the technique accessible to various researchers on Open CV platforms.
The team will be invited to participate in the Global finals that will be conducted in December later this year.
