About NYJC Dance Society

The NYJC Dance Society aims to provide a supportive environment for our dancers to discover and gain familiarity with various dance techniques and genres. It also aims to cultivate in our dancers an awareness and appreciation of aesthetics through creative expression of fluid body movement to music.

The society, comprising the Contemporary Wing and Street Wing, has grown rapidly under the direction of its dedicated instructor Bryan Lee. The society has progressed consistently over the years. The Contemporary Wing has achieved a steady string of good results for SYF Arts Presentation under Bryan’s tutelage. It also competed in open category competitions such as The Royal Dance-Off where the NYJC dancers pitted their skills against seasoned dancers who were the equivalent of their secondary school instructors. The Street Wing achieved good results too in competitions such as DanceWorks and RPresenting. In 2014 and 2016, the society also successfully held its full-fledged sold-out dance concert, Canvas I and Canvas II which were both well-received.

NYJC dancers acquire and sharpen their performance skills and technical competency through various platforms: in-house performances such as Teachers’ Day celebrations, CCA Bazaar and NYJC Open House; external competitions such as the SYF Arts Presentation, TRDO and other enrichment activities. Besides local performances, the teams are also involved in a variety of enrichment programmes. They did Regional Service Learning Expedition to Bintan; dance exchange with the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in Perth and went on a dance immersion programme in Taipei too. NYJC Dance Society is indeed the dance community to be in!
